AFIL is the result of a process, led by the Lombardy Region, aimed at creating a network of clusters who, on thematic areas deemed priority at national and international level, carry out an integrated and sustainable system of infrastructure, skills and methodologies to support research and innovation.
The objective assigned to AFIL consists in promoting and facilitating research and innovation on technologies and qualifying practices for the manufacturing sector to support and develop the leadership and competitiveness of the Lombard manufacturing, through:
- the creation of a stable community by connecting companies, universities, research bodies and associations, favoring their collaboration by promoting research and innovation projects and initiatives.
- the being reference subject of the Region for the definition of research and innovation strategies in the manufacturing sector.
- the support for the development of an EXERGONIAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION NETWORK through participation in the National Cluster Intelligent Factory - CFI and the connection with other European regions in the context of Smart Specialization strategies.

AFIL è frutto di un processo, guidato da Regione Lombardia, volto alla creazione di un network di cluster che, su aree tematiche ritenute prioritarie a livello nazionale ed internazionale, realizzino un sistema integrato e sostenibile di infrastrutture, competenze e metodologie di supporto alla ricerca e alla innovazione.
L’obiettivo assegnato ad AFIL consiste nel promuovere e agevolare la ricerca e l’innovazione sulle tecnologie e pratiche abilitanti per il settore manifatturiero per sostenere e sviluppare la leadership e la competitività del manifatturiero lombardo, attraverso:
- La creazione di una COMUNITA’ STABILE collegando imprese, Università, Enti di Ricerca ed Associazioni, favorendone la COLLABORAZIONE promovuendo progetti ed iniziative di RICERCA E INNOVAZIONE.
- L'essere soggetto di RIFERIMENTO della REGIONE per la definizione delle strategie di RICERCA e INNOVAZIONE nel settore MANIFATTURIERO.
- Il supportare allo sviluppo di una RETE EXTRAREGIONALE di Ricerca e Innovazione attraverso la partecipazione al CLUSTER NAZIONALE FABBRICA INTELLIGENTE – CFI e il collegamento con altre REGIONI EUROPEE nell’ambito delle strategie di SMART SPECIALIZATION.
